Consortium
Resources and Administration
Major
external sponsors of the Consortium currently are the International Division of the National
Science Foundation and Los Alamos National Laboratory. The latter awarded a substantial
contract to the Consortium in 2001 and continued it at the same level
for a total period of 3 years. The NSF awarded first a grant to hold
a Panamerican Advanced Study Institute in Argentina in 2002 and then
a major grant for the activities of the Consortium for the period 2003-09.
Other agencies that have supported the Consortium financially are The
United States-Mexico Foundation for Science and the Office
of Naval Research.
Various departments and centers within UNM have
lent the Consortium financial and other support from its very conception,
prominent among them being the Center
for Advanced Studies (CAS) and the departments of Chemistry and
Physics/Astronomy. Consortium activities involve five Departments of
the College of Arts and Sciences of UNM (Biology, Chemistry, Earth
and Planetary Sciences, Mathematics
and Statistics, and Physics and
Astronomy).
The Consortium Director is advised regarding directions
of the Consortium by a Distinguished
External Advisory Panel of internationally acclaimed scientists
from outside UNM, and an Internal Advisory Committee consisting of UNM
faculty: Evangelos Coutsias (Mathematics and Statistics), Mansoor Sheik-Bahae
(Physics and Astronomy), David Keller (Chemistry), Kevin Malloy (Engineering),
Bruce Milne (Biology Department), Mousumi Roy (Earth and Planetary Science).
